Ratings Change: Inside Elections Moves IN-05 to Tossup

Indianapolis, IN – Inside Elections today became the latest nonpartisan election forecaster to change its rating for IN-05 from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up.” The change marks a two-rating shift, leaping over “Tilt Republican.” This news follows recent changes from Sabato’s Crystal Ball and Cook Political Report, which both moved the seat from “Lean Republican” to “Toss Up” earlier this year.

“We’re excited about our campaign’s growing momentum and will continue working to earn the support of 5th District voters,” said Christina Hale. “It’s clear that Hoosiers are ready for change. They want a leader who will get to work in Congress to solve our most urgent challenges, from protecting and expanding access to affordable health care, to supporting our small business community, to making sure our kids can return to school safely. And while some in Washington are focused on deepening the partisan divide in this country, I’m committed to reaching across the aisle and breaking the gridlock. That’s what this campaign has been about since the beginning and I’m proud that our message is resonating with voters.”

Hale’s campaign in IN-05 is one of the top pickup opportunities for Democrats nationally. National Journal listed the district as the 8th-most likely to flip in November. And in another sign of the campaign’s growing momentum, recent polls have Hale leading her opponent by 5 and 7 percentage points.

Those were difficult times, but led Christina to a career in service of others. As a nonprofit leader at Kiwanis International, Christina focused on community and economic development, putting politics aside to work on problems here in Indiana and around the world. While serving in the Indiana General Assembly, Christina earned a reputation as someone who got good things done for people, passing more than 60 bills with bipartisan support.
